I Quit…

That’s right, I quit. Okay, it’s maybe not as cut and dry as that but it is true that at the end of the season I will be relinquishing my role as manager of my under 8 team.

Is It Time We Introduce A Winter Break?

The winter break has been a constant debate of the English football season for a number of years now as a number of well-payed footballers seem to tire towards the tail end of the season. However, it is seldom debated that we should introduce a winter break to grassroots football, and this is for a completely different reason altogether…

Possibly, Maybe, It Isn’t The FA’s Fault…

The FA have come under a lot of stick in recent times due to the lack of English coaches and the quality of players coming through at grassroots level. Accompanied with the amount of foreign exports currently plying their trade in the English leagues, it is a common opinion that the level of coaching within this county is substandard when compared to that of, say, Germany or Spain. Whilst it is true that the aforementioned nations have thrived at international level over the past decade or so, to say that the FA don’t have a plan when it comes to the long term aim within our national game is a little short sighted.

The Scout…

I’ll admit, this is a bit of a smug post, something I usually refrain from doing. I’m not a big fan of blowing the trumpet of my own child, but, on this occasion, it is something I would like to get off my chest. First, a little back story…

The Silver Lining…

I’m not going to lie. I’ve found life as a grassroots football manager pretty tough recently. It seems that the transition for under 7s to under 8s is not an easy one, and I’m not talking about the children. They’ve been great, more than I could’ve wished for. It’s the baggage that surrounds it all.

The Morning After The Night Before…

We’ve all been there before haven’t we? Turned into work or played in a match on a Sunday morning still full of the previous night’s exploits. You know the type, the nightclubs, the jelly shots, the lap dancing…we’ve all done it and regretted it the following morning. So, imagine my surprise when I had to deal with a bunch of under 8 boys who were suffering their first bout of the dreaded hangover…

“My Dad Gives Me 50p Every Time I Score…”

Ok, I know it’s been a while since my last post, but I guess time gets away from us all doesn’t it? Plenty has happened since I last updated you all on my grand bunch of children…the season finished, we got demoted two leagues (Not relegated, it’s not competitive remember), the season started again and, most importantly, my under 7 team became under 8s.

Training Madness And Positive(ish) Results

First of all, apologies for the lack of posts recently. It has been crazy here but that seems to have shifted now so back to the harsh realities of day-to-day life.

“As Long As We Have Fun It Doesn’t Matter”

Here we go again…this coming weekend sees us take on our ‘A’ team once again, our derby game. With the last match against them being so enjoyable, a 9-0 defeat, it is fair to say that I am not exactly relishing the thought of crossing paths with them once again…
